PCT Africa: Launch evenings celebrate digital banking disruption continent-wide
April 10, 2017
Financial inclusion in Africa has taken a significant step forwards. James Redding, Managing Director of PCT Africa, hailed the launch of PCT Africa at a series of exciting launch events in Johannesburg and Cape Town last week. “You could say that this is a marriage made in heaven,” said James on the high-potential African market. Now we must ensure that the honeymoon period is just as successful!
Tony Craddock, Director General of the Emerging Payments Association, joined PCT’s friends, partners and highly-experienced leadership team to outline the key strategic objectives for PCT in Africa. Ian Clowes, CEO, took to the stage to emphasise our commitment to supporting financial inclusion for the continent’s 330 million adults currently lacking access to formal financial services.
Attendees learned and shared in PCT’s vision for delivering localised, fit-for-purpose, multichannel and cloud-based digital banking products that will widen access to financial services across the continent.
Keith Richbell, COO, praised South Africa’s track record of innovation and embracing new financial services innovators. Pointing to the rise of Capitec Bank from microlending business in 2001 to ‘best bank in the world’ according to The Lafferty Group in 2016, Keith addressed the concerns of investors on whether South Africa is ready for the next wave of change.
With the right service proposition, Keith noted, South Africa is ready for the disruption already witnessed in other markets: a low-cost, functionally rich and digital play focused on niche services winning market share.
PCT’s flagship digital banking platform bank.VISION has already been proven on a national scale with An Post, Ireland’s leading postal service provider, across 1,100 branches and 1.7 million customer interactions a week.
In Africa, the dust from last week’s launch has settled both literally and figuratively. It will not be long, however, until the continent experiences the benefits of PCT Africa’s robust, innovative and scalable digital banking solutions.
